Atrion formalizes in-house training academy

WARWICK – Atrion Networking Corp. announced launch of Atrion Academy, an in-house workforce development program designed to tackle the IT skills gap in Rhode Island and fill 22 current job openings within the company.
The academy comprises Atrion’s Internetworking Associate Apprentice Program for entry-level engineers (the first IT apprenticeship program in the state) as well as accelerator programs for incoming engineers and support technicians with one to three years of experience and “bootcamp” training sessions for technical certifications.
“We’ve successfully run our workforce development program for the past few years with amazing outcomes,” said Tim Hebert, president and CEO of Atrion Networking Corp. “Formalizing the Atrion Academy is just the beginning. Over the next year, Atrion will also fill critical senior technical roles as well as client engagement, sales and essential back-office positions.”
Currently, Atrion opens its certification bootcamps only to its clients, and the apprenticeship and accelerator programs are for internal workforce development only, but Jamie Boughman, the learning and organizational development manager for Atrion Academy, said the company has entertained the possibility of eventually expanding the academy to accept trainees from outside Atrion’s ranks.
For now, Atrion Academy remains the company’s best tool to keep pace with increasing client demand and the need to recruit workers with the right skills.
“Atrion Academy is means to get people in those jobs,” said Boughman. “If we have somebody come into an interview to fill those positions, we can bring someone in who’s not at level but has the right aptitude for the work and upscale them quickly through Atrion Academy.”
Atrion Networking Corp. has added 25 new employees since July 1, 2013, and plans to add an additional 30 employees over the next six months.
