Audubon gets Citizens grant

Admission to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island’s Environmental Education Center will be free on the first Saturday of every month, courtesy of a grant from Citizens Bank Foundation.
The grant will allow families the opportunity to explore the Audubon’s environmental exhibits of diverse habitats, “from upland meadow and cornfields to wetlands, salt marshes and Narragansett Bay shoreline,” according to a press release.
“Situated on the beautiful 28-acre McIntosh Wildlife Refuge, visitors can enjoy beautiful nature trains,” according to the release. “The Environmental Education Center offers a wide variety of education programs as well as outreach to schools throughout the state.”
The Audubon Society of Rhode Island was founded in 1897 and has 17,000 members and supporters, according to its website. More than 33,000 students from area schools participate annually in its educational programs.
The Environmental Education Center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
