Average R.I. savings interest rate .084%

LOS ANGELES – Savings account rates offered by banks and credit unions in 2014 differ depending on where you live, according to a recent analysis by GOBankingRates, which found Rhode Island’s average savings account interest rate at .084 percent. http://www.gobankingrates.com/savings-account/rates-average-savings-interest-state/
The study found the average Massachusetts interest rate on savings accounts is .152 percent –the third highest rate in the nation. Connecticut’s average is .054 percent, Vermont is .116 percent and New Hampshire at .075 percent.
Topping the list with the highest interest rate on savings accounts is Arkansas at .204 percent, with New York coming in second at .170 percent. The lowest rate was in North Dakota at .035 percent.
The rates were in effect as of Jan. 17, with the findings based on information from 4,000 financial institutions.
