PROVIDENCE – Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island announced Tuesday that it has elected a new chairman to its board of directors.
Chuck LoCurto, who joined the board in May 2008, will take over for Deborah R. Jacobson as chair on Jan. 1.
“I’m excited to be entering this position at a time of unprecedented change in our state’s health care system,” said LoCurto. “We have a clear vision of where BCBSRI needs to go, what it will take to get there and a firm foundation on which to build. Our focus will remain on Rhode Island, and our decisions based upon what is in the best interest of Rhode Islanders.”
LoCurto is executive vice president and chief information officer for Textron Financial Corporation, where he has worked for the past 20 years. He is a governing body co-chair of the Boston CIO Executive Summit and a member of the advisory board for the young adult training program Year Up.
He earned his bachelor’s from Clarion University in Pennsylvania and an MBA in human resource management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
“For more than 10 years, Deb Jacobson has donated her time and talents to our organization, serving as board member, secretary, vice chair and, most recently, chair,” said Peter Andruszkiewicz, BCBSRI president and CEO.
“She guided BCBSRI through a major, company-wide transformation that included the introduction of electronic health records, and improved the interaction between the board and management. We’re very fortunate to have had Deb as chair during this period of our company’s growth,” Andruszkiewicz said.
