PROVIDENCE – Quest Diagnostics, which has four laboratory facilities – one each in Johnston, Pawtucket, Providence and Warwick – is no longer participating in the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island network, according to Stacy Paterno, assistant vice president, public affairs, at the insurer.

Paterno added, "To ensure that our members have access to high-quality, cost-effective services, [BCBSRI] routinely conducts a competitive bidding process for laboratory services. As of July 2016, Quest Diagnostics is no longer participating in our network as a result of the most recent process. We notified all members who had received services from Quest in the prior year regarding this change, as well as our participating providers. BCBSRI continues to work with a robust network of quality participating labs to meet our health provider and member needs."

Dennis Moynihan, a spokesman for Quest Diagnostics, said the company has no comment on the matter.
