Baker announces $45.8M for affordable rental housing

BOSTON – A Fall River mill rehabilitation is among 23 projects that will share $45.8 million in state funding for affordable rental housing.

Gov. Charlie Baker last month said the funded projects represent 1,484 total housing units, including 1,119 affordable units, located across the commonwealth. The administration said the projects are also eligible for $29.2 million in federal and state tax credits.

The Fall River project, Knitting Mill, is the rehabilitation of a 149,000-square-foot mill complex built in 1879 and located in the Wampanoag Mills historic district. All 99 residential units will be affordable, with 25 reserved for seniors earning less than 30 percent of the median income.

“Improving access to housing … creates local jobs and increases our ability to attract and retain workers,” Baker said in announcing the funding.
