PROVIDENCE – Bank Rhode Island last month broke ground on its 20th branch, which is located at 132 East Main Road in Middletown.
The site’s old building has been demolished and construction will begin soon, according to a press release.
The bank says the new branch is part of its expansion strategy into the East Bay.
“We are counting down the days until we open the doors to our Middletown branch and have a presence in East Bay that will allow us to provide new banking conveniences to existing and potential customers,” stated Mark J. Meiklejohn, president and CEO of Bank RI. “Though we’ve yet to open, we already feel embraced by the town and community leaders – this is an exciting time for Bank RI, and we look forward to serving an area where we see a lot of opportunity for growth and support of local business.”
The Middletown branch will be a 1,800-square-foot facility with private commercial lending offices, space dedicated to housing the bank’s retail and business financial specialists, conference rooms, and a 24-hour walk-up ATM and night depository, according to the release.
In addition, the new branch will feature cash recycler machines at each teller window in order to increase the efficiency of teller transactions and reduce the time for business deposits with a high number of items by up to 50 percent, according to the bank.
Bank Rhode Island is a wholly owned subsidiary of Brookline Bancorp Inc. and is a full-service, FDIC-insured financial institution based in Providence. Currently, the bank operates 19 branches and more than 55 ATMs throughout Providence, Kent and Washington counties.
