Bank Rhode Island is working to offset food insecurity with a $3,500 contribution to McAuley House’s Lunch on Us program.
McAuley House is part of McAuley Ministries, a Providence-based organization that provides food, shelter and clothing to Rhode Islanders in need. Through the Lunch on Us program, launched in 2007, McAuley House partners with community leaders to help them provide the up to 1,500 meals they serve each week.
“Each day, we’re seeing more and more individuals and families turn to us for help who are having trouble putting food on the table,” said Rev. Mary Margaret Earl, associate director of McAuley House. “It’s because of support from the community, and socially conscious companies like BankRI, that we’re able to help hundreds of people each day – no one should ever go hungry.”
Employees at Bank Rhode Island also joined the cause by spending an afternoon helping to serve meals at McAuley House.
“Food is the most basic of all needs,” said Mark J. Meiklejohn, president and CEO of BankRI. “There’s no reason anyone in our state should be worried about where their next meal will come from.” •
