BankNewport, OceanPoint Insurance Agency team up to aid local literacy

NEWPORT – Sixty youth literacy kits and no-sew fleece blankets were donated by employees of BankNewport and OceanPoint Insurance Agency through the United Way of Rhode Island as part of the companies’ workplace giving campaign.

Comprehensive Community Action Program’s Head Start Program in Cranston, Westbay Community Action Program’s Children’s Center in Warwick, and the Women’s Resource Center of Newport and Bristol Counties each received 20 blankets and 20 literacy kits.

Included in the literacy kits was a Norman Bridwell “Clifford” book as well as other child activities, such as a sock puppet, bookmark, crayons and coloring sheets. According to the BankNewport release: “The kit was designed to deepen children’s reading experience by bringing books to life.”
