BankNewport helps with Jamestown bus

Posted:

JAMESTOWN – BankNewport recently presented a $5,000 grant to the Friends of Jamestown Seniors and the Friends of Jamestown Youth to support the organizations’ joint purchase of a 15-passenger bus for their collaborative transportation strategy.

The Friends of Jamestown Youth provides support to the Jamestown Recreation Dept.’s Jamestown Teen Center as a part of a mission to offer healthy, educational and fun activities for Jamestown youth and their families.

The Friends of Jamestown Seniors sets out to improve and expand programs for Jamestown seniors, including educational programs, physical activities, and community and social events. Upon recognizing a transportation need, it worked with the Friends of Jamestown Youth to raise the remaining funds needed for the bus.

The Jamestown Senior Center will be able to use the bus up to five days a week from morning to mid-afternoon. The bus is expected to help provide local seniors with greater access to the center’s social activities, exercise programs, and wellness seminars, meals and additional services.

The Teen Center will have use of the bus in the afternoons, providing free transportation for an increased number of youth to after-school programs.
