BankNewport President and CEO Sandra J. Pattie recently joined Andrew Schiff, CEO of the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, and Joanne Hoops, executive director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County, for a visit to the Park Holm Boys & Girls Clubs following a $5,000 grant from BankNewport to the food bank’s Kids Café program.

The Kids Café program was developed through a partnership between the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, the Boys & Girls Clubs and other community centers in an effort to provide club members with well-balanced evening meals. Currently, the Kids Café serves nine sites in Providence and Newport. The meals for the Providence sites are prepared by the food bank’s Community Kitchen program, a culinary training program for unemployed adults; the Newport sites receive meals prepared by chef Lisa Janes, who oversees the program on Aquidneck Island.

Kids Café also stresses nutrition education, offering a variety of workshops, food demonstrations and activities to help children learn healthy eating habits. •
