CRANSTON – A new BankNewport branch office will open in Building 4000 at Chapel View in September.

According to a news release from the bank president and CEO, Sandra J. Pattie, the new office will open in a 2,700-square-foot space on the building’s first floor.

She said the bank has signed a 15-year lease for the space, which is at the main entrance off of Sockanosset Cross Road. It will be its second branch in Cranston and 16th for the company.

Approximately seven employees will be based at the new branch – five branch staff plus two employees who work in the bank’s lending office at Chapel View. A bank spokeswoman said that at some point the lending office will be consolidated into the new branch.

“BankNewport’s new Chapel View branch will provide added convenience to area customers, residents, commuters and businesses to access our full range of financial services,” Pattie said.
Bankers will assist customers with teller transactions, product sales and servicing. In addition, customers will have the ability to set up online and mobile banking accounts at the branch, which also will feature an image-enabled ATM in the lobby and an outside drive-up ATM.
“There’s genuine excitement about our new branch at Chapel View, and we look forward to continuing our role as a true community partner and neighbor to the residents and businesses of Cranston and surrounding communities,” Pattie said.
Bank spokeswoman Kathleen A. Charbonneau said Chapel View is “a vibrant, growing location. The bank is very familiar being a current tenant. We’ve had numerous occasions where people have stopped into our lending office assuming it’s a branch, which demonstrates there is a need for a full service branch at this location.”

BankNewport, founded in 1819, has $1.4 billion in assets; it is a subsidiary of OceanPoint Financial Partners. It currently has 15 banking offices in Rhode Island.
