Award-winning storyteller and musician Keith Munslow captivated the minds of more than 400 students at the Lillian Feinstein Elementary School at Sacket Street on June 9.
The eccentric performance was the culminating event to Bank Rhode Island’s reading mentorship program, which is coordinated by Inspiring Minds. Throughout the 2013-2014 academic year, BankRI employees partnered with second-grade students each Tuesday during a “Power Lunch.”
The Power Lunch works to improve literacy through increased exposure to books, but it also seeks to empower students and encourage them to read outside the classroom. This is the third year of the partnership between BankRI and Inspiring Minds.
“Our students loved the performance and always looked forward to their weekly mentorship meetings with the BankRI staff,” said school Principal Jose Valerio.
The afternoon with Munslow consisted of cartoon aliens, tongue-twisters and audience participation to decide how Munslow’s colorful stories unfold. •
