Bank Rhode Island employees and customers spent 10 weeks this summer contributing to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank’s summer food drive, ultimately helping the organization to surpass its collection goal.
By setting up donation boxes at the bank’s operations center, corporate office and 17 branches, employees and customers donated more than 15,000 pounds of food.
The food bank, which set an original goal of collecting 150,000 pounds of food, ended up with more than 175,000.
“We’ve been partnering with the food bank on the summer food drive for years, and it’s become something that our customers and staff look forward to as a way to help our communities,” said Mark J. Meiklejohn, president and CEO of Bank Rhode Island. “I couldn’t be more proud of our customers and staff members for helping the Food Bank exceed its goal for the drive.”
During the past two years, Bank Rhode Island has collected more than 31,000 pounds of food for the organization’s summer drive. This year’s donation also included a financial contribution of $3,334. •
