“Bank Rhode Island is proud to support our friend and colleague, Myra Latimer, with the establishment of the Steven K. Latimer Memorial Scholarship Fund. Steven’s death was the result of a senseless act of violence, but his life will be honored by providing educational opportunities to those children who have suffered the loss of a parent,” said Mark Meiklejohn, president & CEO of BankRI in a statement announcing the support.

“We want our children to know that violence is not the answer, to understand and value the importance of a good education, and to always choose peace in their long-term solution to violence. If my standing up and speaking out makes a difference in just one child’s life, then Steven’s death will not be in vain,” said Myra Latimer, founder of the Steven K. Latimer Memorial Scholarship Fund and BankRI employee.
