BankRI supports Work for Success program

Posted:

Bank Rhode Island recently announced that is has awarded a $2,000 charitable grant to South Providence Neighborhood Ministries.

The organization will put the funds toward its Work for Success initiative, a program launched in 2009 to address the cycles of low educational achievement, unemployment and poverty among young people in Rhode Island.

For eight months, 70 at-risk youths will receive tutoring and have access to job-readiness workshops that provide assistance with resume writing, mock job interviews, basic computer skills and software.

Additionally, participants can receive paid job placements within various areas of the organization.

“The education and skills gaps among our state’s youth are well-documented and remain areas that need to be addressed,” said Mark J. Meiklejohn, president and CEO of BankRI. “The Work for Success program is an exciting model that’s working diligently to reverse this trend. We at BankRI are pleased to support this effort and see the potential for it to be expanded in future years.” •
