As the result of some friendly competition, the Southcoast Blood Bank received more than 200 pints of blood, and the Fall River Fire Department received $2,500 to put toward new defibrillators.
Mechanics Cooperative Bank and Rua-Dumont-Audet Insurance Agency Inc. recently teamed up against BayCoast Bank and Partners Insurance Inc. to see who could donate the most pints during a two-day drive. As part of the contest, the winner would take home bragging rights and the loser would donate $2,500 to a nonprofit organization of the winner’s choice.
After each team held their drive, the blood bank determined that Mechanics Cooperative Bank and RDA Insurance won the contest by more than 50 pints. The companies selected the Fall River Fire Department as the recipient of the donation, which will support the purchase of new, portable defibrillators for their fire engines.
“We are proud to support the Fall River Fire Department with the $2,500 prize,” said Joseph T. Baptista Jr., president and CEO of Mechanics Cooperative Bank. •
