Barber gives to Operation Stand Down

WESTERLY – Joe DeMario has been cutting hair for 54 years and will be retiring, but before he closes his barber shop in Spindrift Village, he is donating all proceeds on his final days in business to Operation Stand Down Rhode Island.
On Aug, 27 and today, Aug. 28, all haircuts at Joe’s Barber Shop cost $20, with the entire proceeds going to help the veterans served by Operation Stand Down Rhode Island.
“Too often, our veterans are forgotten. By doing this generous act, Joe is showing the veteran community that he has not forgotten their sacrifice and service,” said Tony DeQuattro, chairman and founder of Operation Stand Down Rhode Island. “One hundred percent of the donation will go directly to the veterans we serve, providing housing, employment training and other important services.”
“I’m a Vietnam Era veteran and I appreciate Joe giving back to veterans so honorably,” said Tom Gentz, a longtime customer of Joe’s Barber Shop and president of the Charlestown Town Council.
Operation Stand Down Rhode Island is nonprofit that assists veterans with housing and employment, temporary financial assistance and through food pantries at its service centers. OSDRI also assists veterans to process claims through the VA and upgrade their discharges.
