Barnaby Evans, Peter Mello receive AIA R.I. Archistar Award

PROVIDENCE – Barnaby Evans and Peter Mello of WaterFire and the WaterFire Arts Center were recognized in December by American Institute of Architects Rhode Island with its Archistar Award, which recognizes exceptional contributions to architecture by non-architects.
The Rhode Island chapter of AIA recognized Evans and Mellow for their inspiring work and creative community development of Providence and the WaterFire Arts Center project, now under development.
Evans is the executive artistic director and Mello is the managing director of WaterFire Providence, a nonprofit arts organization that operates the seasonal lighting of bonfires in cauldrons on three rivers in downtown Providence. The art installation is credited with shepherding a resurgence of tourism and the arts in Providence.
