PROVIDENCE – John Barnett has been named vice president of finance and chief financial officer of the Rhode Island Foundation following a search to replace former CFO Michael Jenkinson, who left the nonprofit in December.
Barnett will direct finance, accounting, budgeting and investment at the community foundation, an $800 million operation that made grants totaling more than $31 million in 2013 to address needs of the state and its communities.
Neil D. Steinberg, the Foundation’s president and CEO called Barnett an important addition to the organization.
“His strong experience in financial management will ensure that we can continue to execute our strategic priorities around leadership, philanthropy and learning,” Steinberg said.
Most recently, Barnett served as chief operating officer and CFO at Ironwood Investment Management in Boston. Before joining Ironwood, he held senior financial management positions with Fidelity Investments, Cabot Corp. and Teradyne.
Barnett holds a law degree from the Northeastern University School of Law, an MBA in finance from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor of arts degree in political science, economics, rhetoric and law from the University of Chicago.
Barnett replaces Jenkinson, who had served as CFO of the Rhode Island Foundation for more than 17 years, since December 1996, according to his LinkedIn page.
