Batastini new president of R.I. Bar Association

PROVIDENCE – Armando E. Batastini is the new president of the Rhode Island Bar Association.
His term began officially on July 1 and runs until June 30, according to a news release from Nixon Peabody LLP, where Batastini is a partner.
A recipient of the bar association’s 2008 Pro Bono Publico Award, Batastini is a commercial and real estate litigator and the leader of Nixon Peabody LLP’s Distressed Commercial Debt Litigation team.
Most of his practice is devoted to representing holders of commercial debt, but he also represents businesses and owners in contractual, shareholder and commercial realty disputes.
A graduate of the Roger Williams University School of Law, he served as a judicial law clerk for the state Supreme Court Chief Justice Joseph R. Weisberger. In addition, the new president is a former U.S. Navy officer. He also is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association Executive Committee and House of Delegates, a fellow of the Rhode Island Bar Foundation, and a participant in the Volunteer Lawyer Program, Lawyers for the Elderly and Armed Forces Legal Services Project.
