FALL RIVER – BayCoast Bank recently announced it has partnered with the Massachusetts Bankers Association and four other banks for Common Cents, a financial education competition featuring high school students from around the state.
According to a news release, 72 high school students statewide participated in the event. BayCoast Bank invited a group of students from the Gateway to College program at Bristol Community College to participate in the financial literary exercise.
The program works with high school students who have struggled in a traditional high school setting. Students enrolled in Gateway to College receive dual credit for their courses; credits that count toward high school graduation and successful completion of a degree or certificate at Bristol Community College.

The Common Cents program has been produced in support of the Financial Literacy Pilot Program established by the Massachusetts Legislature in 2012. This three-year pilot in 10 high schools is designed to test the potential viability of installing financial education programs in all Massachusetts high schools to give students the personal finance skills necessary to succeed in life.
