Michael Gregson and Lynda White were named Big Brother and Big Sister of the Year by Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State at an event held on Nov. 7 at the Crowne Plaza Providence-Warwick in Warwick. The annual event honors the organization’s volunteer mentors.
Gregson has been a Big Brother since July 2012. During that time, he has supported his mentee with athletic activities and entertainment events. He is also part of the agency’s monthly match activities committee, which plans free or low-cost activities for the volunteer mentors to do with their mentees.
Lynda White has been a Big Sister since 2007. White has supported her mentees by raising money for their family’s expenses and supporting them through family tragedies. She also supports the agency by hosting mentor connection groups at her home and organizing activities for fellow matches and accompanying staff during outreach events.
Heather Potter, Big Brother Big Sister program director, stated, “It’s difficult to select just one Big Brother Big Sister of the Year, when all of our volunteers are dedicated to their mentees. Lynda and Michael go the extra mile for their Littles and have been positive influences in their lives. We are honored to have them as part of our program.” •
