CRANSTON – Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State has opened a donation center on Route 44 in Johnston to help serve communities in the central and northern parts of Rhode Island, the nonprofit announced Tuesday.

According to a release from the nonprofit, the center is intended to create an additional, sustained source of revenue for the social service activities of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State.

The staffed center – located on Route 44 at 59D Putnam Pike in Johnston – will accept donations of “gently used” clothing, small household items, books, toys and home décor items and provide donors with tax receipts. Due to space constraints, furniture and appliances cannot be accepted

The facility is the sixth such center in Rhode Island, with the others located on Pontiac Avenue in Cranston, West Main Road in Middletown, High Street in Cumberland, Metacom Avenue in Bristol and Beach Street in Westerly.
