Biomedical Structures launches new product

WARWICK – Biomedical Structures LLC announced a new product that allows natural tissue in-growth in surgical applications on Tuesday.

In a news release, BMS highlighted its Biofelt absorbable scaffold designed for implant devices or surgical systems that benefit from bio-absorbability.

“Biofelt is a terrific example of how traditional tissue engineering technology and materials can be used in more innovative ways across medical device sectors,” said Dean Tulumaris, president and CEO of BMS. “BMS’ commitment to emerging device development has long been one of our strengths, and we dedicate tremendous resources to the engineering of customized solutions to the most difficult and novel device challenges. We are excited to bring our absorbable fiber and design expertise into new and emerging clinical applications with Biofelt.”

Biofelt is a three-dimensional non-woven structure with a high surface area and void volume designed to promote natural cell adhesion and regeneration. It can be produced as flat sheets, discs, tubes and other shapes, and can have an absorption profile anywhere from less than 30 days to one year, and can be produced in a variety of densities and thicknesses.
