Black Philanthropy Initiative awards grants

PROVIDENCE – The Black Philanthropy Initiative has awarded $24,000 in grants to four nonprofit organizations that serve the state’s African-American community.
BPI is a fund held at the Rhode Island Foundation and a permanent endowment dedicated to advancing equity and social justice for Blacks in Rhode Island.
“By funding initiatives that encourage equity and promote access, we will improve the lives of Rhode Island’s Black community,” said Linda Newton, who co-chairs BPI’s advisory committee. “Inspiring long-term, systemic changes will create pathways to achievement and accomplishment.”
Grant recipients and their awards include:
The Billy Taylor House, $7,000, to provide stipends for the Youth Training and Employment Collaboration Project;
The Boys and Girls Club of Providence, $6,000, to create the Career Exploration Center, which will extend its summer youth employment program into the school year;
The Capital Good Fund, $7,000, to offer a Financial Empowerment for Families program, which will include 20 hours of one-on-one financial and health coaching; and
