With construction expected to end in November 2017, students at Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy will soon have a new facility, designed by Arrowstreet. The new space at 15 Jones St. in Cumberland will include a classroom wing, gymnasium and outdoor academic courtyard. The school’s design is in keeping with the scale, look and feel of Cumberland and the neighborhood, with the subtle use of materials that respect that town’s industrial heritage. The 4-acre site is being developed by CIVIC RI Central Falls Charter I LLC, operating as Civic Builders Inc. The civil engineer for the project is Pare Corp., with Engineers Design Group as structural engineers and Garcia Galuska Desousa as MEP engineer. The total project cost is $15.3 million. Additional building features include a state-of-the-art maker space and robotics lab and a two-story, open-design media commons.
