Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island recently raised more than $5,300 during a wine-tasting event benefiting Friends Way, Rhode Island’s only bereavement center for children and families.
During the event, which was open to the public, approximately 100 supporters turned out to socialize and sample wines at Blue Cross & Blue Shield’s Exchange Street office in Providence.
The event was sponsored by Gasbarro’s Wines.
Among the attendees were mayors Scott Avedisian of Warwick and Allan Fung of Cranston, both of whom said they support Friends Way’s cause.
The organization was founded in 1998 for children ages 3 to 25 and their families who are mourning the death of a loved one.
“This event is a great opportunity to gather our friends and supporters while raising money for an important cause,” said Carolyn Kyle, executive director of Friends Way. “Each year, approximately 100 families reach out to us seeking to understand and cope with their grief. We remain vigilant in our efforts to provide these services to families at no cost, making fundraisers like this vital.” •
