Blue Cross accepting applications for Blue Angel

PROVIDENCE – Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island announced on June 29 that it is now accepting applications for its 2013 Blue Angel Community Health Grants, which help to extend health care to uninsured and vulnerable populations in Rhode Island.

To qualify, organizations must be a nonprofit with a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status. For the upcoming grants, Blue Cross said it was particularly interested in Rhode Island-based groups that play a role in health care safety net and opportunities to transform the health care delivery system.

In 2012, four organizations Blue Angel grants, including Community Health Innovations of Rhode Island, Environmental Justice League of Rhode Island, Ready to Learn Providence, and Wood River Health Services. In addition, four organizations also were selected to receive transitional funding, including Providence Community Health Center, Thundermist Community Health Center, Youth in Action, and Dorcas Place.
