The Rhode Island Free Clinic recently received a $75,000 grant from Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island in order to support the clinic’s mission to provide a medical home for Rhode Islanders that live in poverty.
The clinic provides comprehensive care for more than 2,000 uninsured patients. Patients that are eligible to receive care must prove that they are Rhode Island residents that earn less than 200 percent of the federal poverty level (less than $22,980 for an individual and $47,100 for a family of four). The clinic is made up of a statewide corps of more than 700 volunteers.
“Supporting the broader Rhode Island community has always been an important part of our work at Blue Cross,” said Carolyn Belisle, managing director, community relations for Blue Cross. “This model of integrated, coordinated care can be transformative for patients, and we are thrilled to support the Rhode Island Free Clinic’s continued work to bring these essential services to underserved Rhode Islanders.” •
