Blue Cross gives to McAuley

PROVIDENCE – Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island has made a $10,000 gift to McAuley House in support of the “Lunch on Us” program, sponsoring meals for the entire month of June.
McAuley House, part of McAuley Ministries, an independent nonprofit, serves hot meals to more than 300 people facing hunger each day.
Additionally, Blue Cross employee volunteers served hundreds of meals to the hungry on Wednesday, June 10.
One of Providence’s largest meals sites, McAuley House launched “Lunch on Us” in 2007 as a way to partner with the community and give them a chance to see the impact of their generosity.
“Good nutrition is a key component to living a healthy life,” said Carolyn Belisle, managing director for community relations at BCBSRI. “As one of the three founding partners of the Lunch on Us program, we are impressed each year by impact this program has on so many Rhode Islanders and are honored to continuing supporting the great work of our partners at McAuley House.”
Over the past few years, the meal program at McAuley House has grown to serve up to 1,500 meals each week, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
“With the heart of the summer right around the corner, we anticipate the need for our services to increase as families struggle to replace the meals their children receive at school during the year,” said Don Wolfe, executive director of McAuley House. “The generosity of Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island will make an incredible difference for our guests – not only have they been a long-time supporter of our work, but their employees are always willing to lend a helping hand.”
