Blue Cross highlights Mass. health efforts

BOSTON – Fall River and the Southeastern Massachusetts Health Group were among the municipal agencies recognized by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts for implementing health and wellness initiatives and plan-design changes to improve employee health and make care more affordable.
Blue Cross also recognized Amesbury, Newburyport, Ware and the Mayflower Municipal Health Group at its fifth annual Municipal Blue Innovation Awards.
The awards will be presented, along with a $5,000 wellness grant, to the winners in ceremonies at their local city or town halls this spring.
According to the insurer, Fall River created a cost-effective benefit offering that worked for all parties. Additionally, it implemented a colonoscopy-incentive program and promoted Blue Cross’ Blue Care Line and educated employees about the benefits of using limited-service clinics.
Southeastern Massachusetts Health Group – which includes several Bristol County, Mass., communities – implemented cost-effective plan design changes such as Blue Cross’ Network Blue New England plans. •
