BANK OF AMERICA has made a $270,000 commitment to Rhode Island nonprofits responding to basic human needs, including hunger relief, shelter, education and social services.

PROVIDENCE – Bank of America Corp. awarded six Rhode Island nonprofits $270,000 to support services related to basic human needs, including hunger relief, shelter, educational and social services.
The grant was awarded to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, House of Hope Community Development Corporation, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, Crossroads Rhode Island and United Way of Rhode Island.
The bank earlier this month announced the funding, saying nonprofits’ work benefited not only those in needs, but also the community at-large.
“These nonprofits connect people with resources directly at their point of need,” said William F. Hatfield, Rhode Island market president for Bank of America, in a statement. “The entire community benefits when we work together to put individuals and families on the path to financial stability.”
The grants are a part of a larger Bank of America effort aimed at improving economic futures by responding to fundamental issues related to jobs, housing and basic human services, according to the bank’s website.
“As a financial institution, we respond in two ways – by helping to address the immediate need as well as longer term solutions for economic self-sufficiency,” according to the bank.
The bank is investing $2 billion over 10 years in the effort, according to its website.
