BOSTON – The 2015 snow storms have claimed their first public transportation victim – Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority General Manager Beverly Scott has resigned, according to the Boston Globe.
The MBTA board gave her a vote of confidence Wednesday, but she turned around and handed in her resignation, one day after the public transit agency totally shut down train service throughout the region stemming from delays and fears that passengers would be stranded in extreme weather conditions.
The Globe reported that Scott had “laughed off the notion that she would resign” at a news conference on Tuesday, saying that the system failings could be blamed on consistent underfunding of transit.
Scott was appointed to head the MBTA on Dec. 17, 2012, following a high-profile career in public transit administration, including a stint as the head of the R.I. Public Transit Authority.
