Boston’s Sapient Corp. to be sold to French ad giant firm Publicis

BOSTON – Sapient Corp. will be sold to French advertising conglomerate Publicis Groupe in a $3.7 billion deal, the Boston Business Journal reported on Monday.
The journal reported that Sapient is one of the largest, publicly traded advertising agencies, and that Publicis acquired Digitas, also in Boston, for $1.3 billion eight years ago.
The deal still needs to be approved by Sapient shareholders; the acquisition is expected to be completed in early 2015.
Sapient CEO and co-chairman Alan Herrick would join Publicis as CEO of Publicis’ new Publicis.Sapient group to focus on the “digital transformation at the convergence of communication, marketing, commerce and technology,” the journal reported.
DigitasLBi would be part of this new division, as well as Sapient’s three existing divisions, SapientNitro, Sapient Global Markets and Sapient Government Services. Publicis’ Razorfish Global and Rosetta businesses also would be part of Publicis.Sapient.
