The Boys and Girls Clubs of Providence recently inducted seven community leaders into its Alumni Hall of Fame.

During the sixth annual ceremony held at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center May 16, the inductees were recognized for their roles in their businesses and their communities. Now lawyers, businessmen, coaches, city council presidents and even a Miss Rhode Island, the leaders attribute their success in life to lessons learned early on at their local clubs.

“Each day, there are people within our community who do incredible things to help others, with many getting their start as a youth through the Boys and Girls Clubs,” said Nicole Dufresne, executive director of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Providence. “It’s an honor to take a moment each year and recognize outstanding club alumni who demonstrate the powerful impact that Boys and Girls Clubs can have on young lives in seeing the best in children and helping them to realize their full potential.”

This year’s inductees include Joe Baxter, district manager of Staples Inc.; Ed Cooley, head coach of Providence College Men’s Basketball; Richard R. Kohler, a retired buyer and planner; Kate McCaughey, Miss Rhode Island USA 2011; Walter F. McLaughlin of McLaughlin Automotive Stores (retired); and Michael A. Solomon, president of Providence City Council President. Matthew J. Soltysiak, U.S. Air Force, was recognized posthumously.
