Braz named vice president at Mechanics Cooperative Bank

TAUNTON, Mass. – Mechanics Cooperative Bank announced last month the appointment of banking veteran James M. Braz to vice president, commercial loan officer.
The Taunton-based bank hired Braz, who most recently worked at Bank of America in Waltham, Mass., as a vice president, small business banker, according to a press release.
“The bank is happy to welcome Jim to [the] bank’s lending team and excited to have his wealth of experience and knowledge working on the bank’s behalf,” said Joseph T. Baptista Jr., president and CEO of Mechanics Cooperative Bank, in a statement. “We are confident his strong lending, development and leadership skills will help continue to grow and expand the bank’s commercial lending business.”
Braz, a Barrington resident, will work at Mechanics corporate headquarters in Taunton. Prior to working at Bank of America, Braz worked for Bank Boston and then Fleet, before joining the Pasadena, Calif., bank IndyMac in southern Massachusetts, according to the release.
“Jim brings a great amount of experience working across business lines, partnering with branch managers and staff, residential loan officers and wealth management services to provide his borrowers with a complete package of banking services,” Baptista continued. “We are confident Jim will be a great asset to Mechanics Cooperative Bank.”
The bank, established in 1877, has $475 million in total assets.
