Bristol County Savings gives to 5 nonprofits

TAUNTON – Bristol County Savings Bank, through its charitable arm the Bristol County Savings Charitable Foundation – Pawtucket Advisory Board, awarded grants totaling $28,000 to five Pawtucket area nonprofit organizations during a ceremony recently at the Bank’s Pawtucket branch at 215 Armistice Boulevard.
The foundation presented checks to the following organizations: Children’s Friend, $5,000; Old Slater Mill Association, $7,000; The Learning Community Charter School Inc., $7,000; URI Foundation – First Star URI Academy, $4,000; and Reach Out and Read Rhode Island, $5,000.
Patrick J. Murray Jr., president of the foundation and president and CEO of the bank, as well as Michele Roberts, clerk of the foundation, and bank executive vice president, awarded the grants along with Pawtucket Mayor Donald R. Grebien. Also participating were representatives from the foundation-advisory board and the bank’s Pawtucket branch.
“Supporting the communities we serve is a core principle of the bank, so we look forward to seeing firsthand the positive impact these nonprofit will continue to make throughout the greater Pawtucket region,” said Murray.
Bristol County Savings Bank has always been an active supporter in the communities in which it serves. The establishment of the Bristol County Savings Charitable Foundation – Pawtucket Advisory Board was announced at the grand opening of the Bank’s Pawtucket office in 2001 in an effort to demonstrate the bank’s commitment to its new market. The foundation-advisory board has donated just over $2.1 million to organizations in the Pawtucket area since its inception.
The foundation itself was established in 1996 as part of the bank’s 150th anniversary. Since the foundation began, more than $10.5 million in grants have been awarded to hundreds of different nonprofit organizations. In 2013, the foundation awarded $1.3 million to various nonprofits.
