BOSTON – Single-family home sales in Bristol County, Mass., declined 23 percent in January compared with the same period in 2011, while the median sale price rose 6 percent year over year, The Warren Group said this month.

The real estate tracking group reported 163 Bristol County homes sold in January, down from 213 in January of last year. The median sales price for the county rose to $210,000, up from $198,000 in January of 2011.

The steep decline in sales volume and rise in prices were contrary to the rest of the state, where sales rose more than 3 percent and the median price dropped 4 percent. The 2,425 single-family homes sold in the state during the month was the highest total for any January since 2007.

The state’s median sales price dropped in January to $260,000 from $270,000 in January 2011. •
