BOSTON – Single-family homes sales in Bristol County, Mass., declined 23 percent in January compared with the same period in 2011, while the median sale price rose 6 percent year over year, The Warren Group said Tuesday.
The real estate tracking group reported 163 Bristol County homes sold in January, down from 213 in January of last year. The median sales price for the county rose to $210,000, up from $198,000 in January of 2011.
The steep decline in sales volume and rise in prices was contrary to the rest of the state, where sales rose more than 3 percent and the median price dropped 4 percent. The 2,425 single-family homes sold in the state during the month was the highest total for any January since 2007.
The state’s median sales price dropped in January to $260,000 from $270,000 in January 2011.
“Low prices are bringing buyers to the market,” said The Warren Group CEO Timothy Warren Jr. “Recent pending sales data are a hopeful sign for a strong spring market, and the weather this winter is certainly an improvement over 2011.”
In other areas of the market, Massachusetts condominium sales fell 4 percent in January, while the median price rose 1 percent to $247,500.
