BRISTOL – The Rhode Island Foundation has awarded a $50,000 grant to nonprofit manufacturing incubator Tinker Bristol, which aims to facilitate a community-based approach in development of new companies.
The incubator will be located in downtown Bristol, at the historic Bristol Industrial Park. The announcement of the grant Thursday is expected to include comments from leaders in economic development. Both Gov. Gina Raimondo and Secretary of Commerce Stefan Pryor are scheduled to attend.
The incubator will offer the East Bay communities of Rhode Island affordable access to shared space, rapid prototyping equipment and other tools needed to grow manufacturing technologies, according to a release from Tinker Bristol.
The initiative will not be cohort-based, instead it will be community-based, designed to attract manufacturing start-ups from a broad range of industries, including entrepreneurs, small businesses, students and hobbyists.
“The goal of this initiative is to design a scalable, replicable model for stimulating grassroots manufacturing and applied product development in Rhode Island,” the incubator announced in a press release.
The Rhode Island Foundation is a community foundation that is the largest funder of nonprofits in the state.
