Brockton voters narrowly approve casino plan

BROCKTON, Mass. – Voters here on Tuesday narrowly approved a casino plan for the Brockton Fairgrounds by 143 votes, according to The Enterprise.
The final vote was 7,163 to 7,020. Mass Gaming and Entertainment, a subsidiary of Rush Street Gaming, brought forward the $650 million casino proposal. State law requires local approval to qualify for a casino license.
The city of Brockton would be paid $10 million a year through the host community agreement.
Thirty-two percent of approximately 44,000 voters turned out for the special election, The Enterprise said.
Brockton is competing with proposals in New Bedford and Somerset for the final casino license for southeastern Massachusetts. KG Urban, which is behind the New Bedford casino plan, has submitted its final application to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, while Crossroads, which wants a casino in Somerset, has sought another application extension from the commission.
