Brown ranks 51st on World University Rankings

BROWN UNIVERSITY ranked as the 51st best university in the world and 33rd best in North America on the Times Higher Education's World University Rankings.

LONDON – Brown University ranked 51st in the world on Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings.

The list, which is produced by Times Higher Education – a product of the Times of London and Thomson Reuters, ranked research-led universities based on 13 performance indicators grouped into five areas: teaching, research, citations, industry income and international outlook.

Brown University ranked 51st in the world and 33rd in North America, on the Times’ 2012-2013 list, with a score of 68.9. The Providence-based Ivy League school was the only Rhode Island university to make the list.

Brown earned a score of 63.7 for teaching, 36.9 for international outlook, 29.9 for industry income, 60.3 for research and 94.1 in the citations category.

On the 2011-2012 list Brown University ranked higher, at 49, but had a lower overall score of 65.6.

The California Institute of Technology earned the top spot in the on the Times’ list, with a score of 95.5. The University of Oxford, Stanford University, Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology rounded out the top five slots.
