Brown 21st in Peace Corps volunteers

PROVIDENCE – Brown University had 24 undergraduate alumni volunteering in the Peace Corps in 2011, according to figures released by the agency Wednesday.

Brown tied for 21st along with Humboldt State University, Washington University in St. Louis, and Bowling Green State University in the medium colleges and universities category.

The three large colleges with the most undergraduate Peace Corps volunteers were University of Colorado Boulder, University of Washington, and the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Topping the medium-sized schools were George Washington University, Western Washington University and American University, with 78, 73 and 63 volunteers, respectively. For small colleges, the University of Mary Washington had 29 volunteers, followed by Gonzaga University, 26 and Oberlin College & Conservatory, 24.

The biggest contributors since the agency’s founding in 1961 have been the Unvierstiy of California, Berkeley, 3,497; the University of Wisconsin – Madison, 3,000; and the University of Washington, 2,738.
