Brown University receives $382K in federal funding for mental health services

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Islanders working to recover from trauma get a boost in the form of $382,000 in federal grants for mental health services.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, or SAMHSA, awarded the funding to Brown University for programming over the next five years. Specifically, the money supports the National Child Trauma Stress Initiative – Category III and Community Treatment and Services Center grants.
“Trauma, whether from exposure to child abuse, community violence, or a natural disaster, can have a devastating effect,” said SAMHSA Principal Deputy Administrator Kana Enomoto. “We must help people in every segment of our community.”
These efforts are aimed at providing services for children, teens and their families who experience or see traumatic events, and to improve access to these services. This work is carried out collaboratively via the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, SAMHSA said in a press release.
