The partnership is supported by the newly established $2.5 million KIPP Scholarship Fund as part of Brown’s permanent endowment from Martha and Bruce Karsh, Brown University-student parents. Martha Karsh also is a KIPP board member.
Brown hopes to recruit and enroll six to eight qualified KIPP alumni each year by providing pre-college educational programs, targeted recruiting, research-project support and the waiving of application fees. Brown then will provide academic and social support systems for those students while addressing full financial needs.
“The students we attract to Brown through this important partnership will contribute in meaningful ways to our community of talented and high-achieving students,” said Brown University President Christina Paxson in a statement.
KIPP’s network serves more than 39,000 students in 20 states and in Washington, D.C., through 125 schools. •
