PROVIDENCE – Brown University ranked 19th in a list of the top 50 science research universities, according to Best College Reviews.

Best College Reviews, which is a ranking service for American colleges and universities, said that undergraduates can apply for Karen T. Romer Undergraduate Teaching and Research Awards, which support Brown students collaborating with faculty on research and teaching projects.
“Not only does Brown University provide excellent research opportunities for undergraduates, an impressive list of research centers and institutions are affiliated with Brown. These include the Center for Biomedical Engineering, the Center for Computational Molecular Biology, the Center for Computation and Visualization, the Center for Environmental Health and Technology, the Center for Environmental Studies, The Center for Genomics and Proteomics, the Institute for Brain Science, and the International Health Institute,” Best College Reviews stated.
In its explanation about the list, Best College Reviews said some of the world’s most famous discoveries came from university research, from the telegraph to the advances in stem cell research. It also said 56 percent of the nation’s basic research is being conducted at universities.

Data for the list was gathered from university websites regarding undergraduate research opportunities, research centers and federal research funding.
Nick Plato, the article’s author, said, “Identifying leading research universities in regards to undergraduate opportunities and research centers seemed a needed task as every potential scientist and researcher is an undergraduate at some point. Knowing where opportunities abound is a required resource in the noble pursuit of knowledge for the sake of mankind.”
Coming in first was Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
