Brown ranks 19th on Forbes' top colleges list

PROVIDENCE - Brown University has been named the 19th top college in the United States in Forbes magazine’s annual rankings being released in its Aug. 20 edition and available now online.

The rankings, prepared by the Center for College Affordability & Productivity, focus on student outcomes, including career prospects, graduation rates and low levels of debt.

Brown University also ranked 18th in private colleges, 13th on the list of most entrepreneurial colleges and 11th in research universities.

Princeton University in Princeton, N.J. was ranked the country’s top college, followed by Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., Stanford University in Stanford, Calif., the University of Chicago in Chicago, Ill., Yale University in New Haven, Conn. and Harvard University in Boston, Mass.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston, Mass. and Amherst College in Amherst, Mass., also made the top 20 list at numbers 11th and 13th, respectively.

Forbes’ 2012 college coverage also includes the beta launch of the Forbes Top Colleges SmartSearch online tool meant to help parents in the college search and payment process.

Forbes included the top 50 colleges in its print edition and included a complete ranking of 650 colleges on its website.

In the online list, Providence College ranked 182nd, the University of Rhode Island ranked 452nd, Roger Williams University ranked 544th, Rhode Island College ranked 552nd and Johnson & Wales University ranked 649th.

In Bristol County, Mass. Wheaton College ranked 81st on the Forbes list and Stonehill College.

Neither Bryant University nor the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth were listed.
