Brown ranks third for most Fulbright grants

BROWN UNIVERSITY was awarded the third most Fulbright grants for overseas education in the county, behind the University of Michigan and Harvard University.

PROVIDENCE – Brown University is third among schools awarded Fulbright grants from the State Department for overseas education, according to the Associated Press.

Providence’s Ivy League school has 29 Fulbright recipients for the 2012-2013 academic year, placing behind the University of Michigan, with 40 recipients, and Harvard University with 31 recipients.

The University of Michigan has placed first on the list of U.S. schools with Fulbright recipients six of the last eight years.

Brown University’s Fulbright winners for the year will go to 22 countries including Senegal, Brazil, Spain, Macau, and Bangladesh for English Teaching Assistantship awards and research grants.

The Fulbright Program, established by Congress in 1946, is an international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government. The program supports recent college graduates and graduate students to conduct research, pursue graduate study and teach abroad and to bring international students to the United States.

It operates in more than 155 countries.
