Brown’s graduate-engineering program ranks second in U.S.

PROVIDENCE – Brown University Engineering ranked second on graduateprograms.com list of the Top 10 Graduate Engineering Programs in the United States, the school announced Thursday.

Programs were ranked based on student reviews from more than 500 engineering schools as of November 30, according to graduateprograms.com.

“We are proud to have been recognized among the top engineering graduate schools in the country,” Brown’s Director of Graduate Studies Tom Powers said in prepared remarks. “It is impressive that a program of our size is so highly ranked.”

The programs were ranked in 15 different categories using a 10-star system. Brown University, with 8.7 stars, ranked second after Ithaca, N.Y.-based Cornell University, which had 8.8 stars. Stanford University rounded out the top three with 8.6 stars.

“It is particularly gratifying to see that we are one of the top-ranked engineering schools among our Ivy League peers, a group that is somewhat distinct from many of the other highly ranked schools, who have a much more engineering and science directed focus,” Larry Larson, dean of Brown's engineering school, said in a statement.
